The nonprofit Sacramento Zoological Society needs your support now more than ever! The current Sacramento Zoo is more than 95-years old. At just 14.7 acres, the zoo’s current footprint is landlocked and unable to provide the necessary space for many of its beloved residents, including giraffes, big cats, okapi, and so many others. Over the past 30 years, the zoo has lost many of its iconic animal species due to space constraints, including tiger, hippopotamus, and bear. This decline will continue if the zoo stays where it is.
That's why NOW is the time for a new, modern zoological park for the animals and for visitors of all ages from throughout our region and far beyond!
A new zoo in Elk Grove will allow our wildlife care professionals to create expansive natural habitats, bolster our conservation programs, and allow the zoo to better serve its educational mission by accommodating more than twice the number of guests per year.

To register to bid, go to the Name a Giraffe and Donate, and click the "Get Started" button in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
Be sure to include your mobile number to receive text updates on your bids.

Step-by-Step Directions:
- Go to the Name a Giraffe and Donate page.
- Click the "Get Started" button in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click the green "Create Account" button.
- Enter your email address.
- Wait for a verification email (make sure to check your Junk folder if you don't receive it).
- Follow the verification link and fill-out the form. Be sure to provide your mobile number so you can receive important texts about the auction and the items you bid on. Credit card information entered will only be used when bidding or donation through the auction site.
- Verify payment method, billing address, email and mobile number are correct. Then click “Create.”
- Click on the “Start Bidding!” link to enter the auction!
Auction Guidelines
- The Sacramento Zoo’s Name a Giraffe Calf and Donate to Support the New Zoo opens at 9:30 am on Friday, February 10, 2023 and will close at 11:45 pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
- After the close of the Name a Giraffe Calf auction, the winner’s credit card will be charged and a receipt will be emailed to the email address on file.
- Winners of the meet the calf contest will be selected randomly. Any donation of $10 or more enters donors for the chance to win.
- The winning bidder in the Name a Giraffe Calf contest will have the opportunity to meet the calf and her mother.
- No more than four (4) persons per winning tour.

- What kind of technology will I need to register and bid?
To view and bid on auction items, you will need access to a computer or mobile device with internet connection. We suggest entering your mobile phone number when registering to participate, so you will be able to receive text notifications regarding your bids. If you need any assistance placing bids, please contact us at events@saczoo.org.
- Can I pay by cash or check?
We cannot accept payments by cash or check at this time to ensure that all transactions can be fulfilled in a timely manner. Upon registering, you will be asked to provide credit card information.
